Director of Adult Discipleship Ministries
Prior to serving on the cabinet of the Texas Conference, Richard served as Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church Missouri City for eleven years. During this tenure, the congregation elected to relocate and underwent two major building programs. Effective ministries were expanded through missional outreach, faith formation ministries, vibrant worship and caring ministries. Since retiring from itinerate ministry in 2011, Richard Burnham has focused his attention and ministry on the development of Open Skies Leadership, a ministry of coaching and consulting church leaders and teams.
A native of Port Arthur, Texas, Richard was ordained Elder in the Texas Conference in 1978. He received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Perkins in 1989 with a focus on worship. He and his wife, Melissa, were married in 1995 and together have six children and six grandchildren. They enjoy traveling and shared ministry opportunities.
