The United Methodist Church has adopted a policy for the protection of children and youth involved in its ministries and for the protection of workers against frivolous accusations. This policy is known as the Safe Sanctuary policy. While each annual conference of the United Methodist Church has its own policy, it is up to the individual church to create its own policy within the guidelines of the policy of the Annual Conference. Anyone working with children or youth, or being involved in any children’s or youth ministry must be Safe Sanctuary certified. This is a two-step process.
Applicants must complete and pass a criminal background check. This must be done on an annual basis.
Applicants must be trained and quizzed annually in the Safe Sanctuary policy. Please view the Safe Sanctuary video (below) and take the accompanying QUIZ.
